Werke | Begriff Shona-Skulptur

At the end of the 1950s, the first sculptural works were created in Harare and Tengenenge, primarily autonomous works of art and not tribal art with religious or ritual references. They became known worldwide under the term "Shona sculptures" (Shona = Zimbabwe's largest tribe) and are today considered one of the great artistic achievements of sub-Saharan Africa.

The Galerie KK presents works by Bernard Matemera, Edward Chiwawa and Fanizani Akuda, three of the most important and independent representatives of the first generation. They have created works of international renown and can be found in many of the world's major museums, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
