Stages • born in Paris as the son of Polish Jews, first publications of his drawings in various magazines during his studies at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris, working as a draughtsman, illustrator, director, filmmaker (1972 special prize of the Cannes jury for the animated film "La planète sauvage"), writer (his novel "Der Mieter" ("The tenant") was filmed by Roman Polanski) and actor (u. a. in Werner Herzog's "Nosferatu" and Volker Schlöndorff's "Eine Liebe von Swann"), died in Paris on 16 April 1997
Awards • numerous prizes, such as 1981 Prix Honoré pour le Dessin, Grand Prix National des Arts graphiques, 1985 Art Prize of the City of Darmstadt, 1990 Grand Prix de la Ville de Paris
