Stages • 1982-1986 studies of painting at the Northeast Normal University, Changchun, Jilin Province, 1986-1991 lecturer for Western painting and art history at the Northeast Normal University, Changchun, Jilin Province, 1991-1998 studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Robin Page, graduated as a master student, since 2006 visiting professor at the Jilin University of Arts Changchun, 2008 publication of the book "Yongbo Zhao: Das große Lachen" published by Prestel-Verlag Munich (ed. by Gottfried Knapp), since 2010 visiting professor at Heilongjiang Academy of Fine Arts and Heilongjiang Academy of Contemporary Art, since 2011 professor at the Northeast Normal University, Changchun, Jilin Province, since 2012 lecturer at the Capital Normal University, Beijing, lives in Krailling near Munich, works as artist and professor in Munich, Beijing and Changchun.  


Awards • several first prizes in China, among others 1987 first prize of the  "All-Chinese Art Exhibition in honour of the 60th birthday of the People's Liberation Army", National Art Museum Beijing, 1990 inclusion in the "Great Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese Artists" 


Exhibitions • since 1990 solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums in Germany and China, among others Cubus Kunsthalle Duisburg, Erotic Art Museum Hamburg, Haus der Kunst München, Museum Galgenhaus Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin, Zitadelle Spandau Berlin, Municipal Gallery "Die Fähre " Bad Saulgau, Kallmann-Museum Ismaning, Enjoy Museum of Art Beijing, He Art Museum Wuhan, National Art Museum of China Beijing, 2003-2011 touring exhibition "Life as a Legend: Marilyn Monroe" with "Marilyn II" through 20 museums in Europe, the USA and Canada
